About this app 📖

A short story about why Mutashabihat Qur'an exists — and why it's built the way it is.

😅

The honest truth

After laziness, confusing similar verses is my biggest obstacle when it comes to memorizing the Qur'an. There, I said it.

🤔

What are mutashabihat?

Mutashabihat (المتشابهات) are verses in the Qur'an that are nearly identical — same wording, same rhythm, but with subtle differences in a word here or a letter there. When you're memorizing, these verses become serious traps. You recite one and your brain confidently fills in the wrong ending from a completely different surah. We've all been there. 😬

💭

Why not just use existing apps?

I tried. The problem with most existing solutions is that they generate similar verses algorithmically — matching based on text similarity scores and pattern matching. The result? Sometimes the suggestions are completely off-base (not actually confusing in practice), and other times they throw ten verses at you when really only two are the ones that trip people up.

An algorithm doesn't know what confuses a human memorizer. It just knows what looks similar on a screen.

So what's different here?

I came across a book — a real, physical book — that a scholar had painstakingly compiled, grouping together the verses that memorizers actually mix up. Every similarity in this app comes directly from that book. No algorithm, no guessing. A human being sat down, went through the entire Qur'an, and identified the verses that genuinely trip people up.

That's the whole point — human judgment over algorithmic approximation. The result is a curated, practical reference that actually reflects the real experience of memorizing the Qur'an. 🎯

🌟

The goal

To take that book and make it accessible, searchable, and easy to use — so that anyone memorizing the Qur'an can quickly look up a verse and see exactly which other verses they need to distinguish it from. Simple as that.

May Allah make it easy for all of us. Insha Allah. 🤲
