The Sundering

إِذَاٱلسَّمَآءُٱنشَقَّتۡ١

When the sky has split [open]

وَأَذِنَتۡلِرَبِّهَاوَحُقَّتۡ٢

And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

وَإِذَاٱلۡأَرۡضُمُدَّتۡ٣

And when the earth has been extended

وَأَلۡقَتۡمَافِيهَاوَتَخَلَّتۡ٤

And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

وَأَذِنَتۡلِرَبِّهَاوَحُقَّتۡ٥

And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –

يَٰٓأَيُّهَاٱلۡإِنسَٰنُإِنَّكَكَادِحٌإِلَىٰرَبِّكَكَدۡحٗافَمُلَٰقِيهِ٦

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

فَأَمَّامَنۡأُوتِيَكِتَٰبَهُۥبِيَمِينِهِۦ٧

Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

فَسَوۡفَيُحَاسَبُحِسَابٗايَسِيرٗا٨

He will be judged with an easy account

وَيَنقَلِبُإِلَىٰٓأَهۡلِهِۦمَسۡرُورٗا٩

And return to his people in happiness.

وَأَمَّامَنۡأُوتِيَكِتَٰبَهُۥوَرَآءَظَهۡرِهِۦ١٠

But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
